THE Narooma Numnutz winter swimmers had a record 35 swimmers for their first swim of the season on Sunday.
The water was 18 degrees for their standard swim across the length of bar beach. Mark Rogerson told his traditional joke at the half-way point of the swim.
After the swim, the swimmers were then treated to a special spiced warming drink prepared by Paul O’Brien.
They then retreated to the warm fire of O’Briens Hotel for a full egg and bacon breakfast prepared by swimmer and Raw Prawn Bistro chef Scott Cavanagh.
Finemaster Brent Lockton was in fine form issuing fines for various infringements ranging from wearing flipper to tipping kids off their paddle boards.
As it was Mother's Day, a few swimmers brought their wives, partners and kids along to join in on breakfast, which was followed by a traditional game of Chase the Ace.
The swimmers meet every Sunday during winter at the far end of Bar Beach at 9am – all welcome.
Bermagui Winter Swimmers draw a quorum
THE Bermagui Blue Balls, winter ocean swimming at its coolest, started their 2015 season with a quorum, plus one of hardy participants.
A stiff breeze from the North West turned the usually reliable waves of Horseshoe Bay into something resembling a teenager's bedroom floor.
The choppy water was deceptively warm as we shook off the inactivity of summer to start training for the ReBoot Bermagui festival on September 26 and 27.
While three BBB had been coaxed from bed that morning, coffee for the post swim brew proved less enthusiastic. After eight months of inactivity the granules stubbornly refused to leave their sanctuary of the glass jar.
Next Sunday sees the triumphant return of the Blue Balls founder, leader and inspiration, Comrade Pearse, after his recent overseas cross cultural mission. Other BBB stalwarts have promised to appear provided there is some fresh coffee on offer.
Everyone is invited to attend, so if you have a sense of adventure bring your cossies and good humour to Blue Pool at 9am on Sunday morning. You know it makes sense.
