Rates of malicious damage to property in the Bega Valley, was the most noteworthy improvement to come out of the recently released data. 

Figures show cases are down from 318 in 2013 to 243 in 2014, resulting in a 23.58 per cent decrease.

More improvements could be seen across all major crimes. 

Stealing from a motor vehicle experienced a 22 per cent downturn, non-domestic assault has reduced by 21.34 per cent, while domestic assault is down 19.23 per cent.

The results show the incidence of robberies, sexual offences and theft, remained stable, with no significant change for the same period.

These positive figures are part of a statewide trend, with most regions throughout NSW remaining stable or improving considerably in 2013-14.  

Bega MP, Andrew Constance believes the downward trend in incidence of major crime across the Bega Valley, is thanks largely to our local police command.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government have worked hard to deliver extra police officers and resources as well as strengthen police powers to combat crime,” Mr Constance said.

“This has been reflected in the crime data.

“I thank our local police officers for their hard work. 

“These overwhelmingly positive statistics are testament to their efforts and success," he said.

Mr Constance urged the public to continue to work in partnership with local police, to ensure crime statistics in the region continue to improve in the future.

“Community members can assist police in the fight against crime by reporting incidents when they occur and remaining vigilant," he said.
