The annual swimming carnivals, both primary and secondary, held over two days, were an enormous success with students participating enthusiastically and dressing for the occasion in their house colours.
Monaroo House won the overall competition with the most points.
The school then met for its first whole-school assembly on February 11.
Staff, students and parents were treated to a musical performance from Year 9 student Judith Browne, who sang Joni Mitchell’s classic song, Big Yellow Taxi.
Principal Steve Centra then spoke to the whole school about the college’s liturgical theme for 2015, “the Earth is full of the goodness of the Lord”.
Mr Centra said it was about emphasising the importance of looking after our unique and beautiful environment.
Every student from Kindergarten to Year 12 and Lumen Christi staff received a bookmark, featuring photos and words reflecting the wonder of our natural environment.
Students also each received a native Australian tree to take home and nurture.
A blog has been set up for students to post comments and photos of their trees as they grow at www.lumen.nsw.edu.au/plant
blog.
Following Mr Centra’s speech, age champions were presented with medallions as recognition of their success at the recent Lumen Christi Swimming Carnivals.
The school said it had been a smooth start to Term One and was looking forward to another productive and rewarding year.
