Wood surprised most club members with a superb 1.2kg brown trout using a conventional celta lure.
The full moon is the best time for snapper, but there are few reports of many hitting the deck from local waters.
However, morwong have really sparked up and the club has reports of good catches off Haycock, with terrific fish measuring up to 55cm.
Yellowfin tuna have now been reported off Bermagui, so it should not be much longer before the warm currents bring them to the waters off Merimbula and Eden.
Salmon and sizeable tailor are reported back in Pambula Lake, but overall the estuaries are patchy, possibly due to the moon’s phase.
The club hoped bream and dusky flathead will be active for this weekend’s tri-estuary challenge.
Briefing and entries for the MBGALAC and Tackleworld’s tri-estuary challenge for the Merimbula and Pambula Lakes and the Bega River will start at 7.30pm this Friday evening at the Spencer Park Clubhouse.
The emphasis for this tournament, which is open to both club members and visitors alike is “catch and release”.
Prizes of over $1000 cash are on offer, which will double if there are 40 or more teams entered.
There is also the annual jackpot prize -now $300 - for the largest jewfish sponsored by Pier One Bar and Grill.
Lindon Thompson will do the briefing.
