On-site works started earlier in the year to provide a suitable entrance to the popular beach with improved facilities.
Acting group manager of community relations and leisure, Simon Schweitzer said the phase one works were mostly complete with new play equipment, landscaping, and a rock retaining wall in place.
“The old recreation area didn’t work as a fitting introduction to this beautiful part of the Sapphire Coast, and it’s been great to see this new look area taking shape,” he said.
“Visitors this summer will be able to relax on the grass, explore the beach, and a new swinging basket in the play area will be great for the kids.
“The next phase is already underway with the preparation of designs for a new toilet and shower facility and a proposal for an access ramp to the beach.
“We will go out to the community for comment when designs for the access ramp are finalised.
“The existing toilet block will remain open until the new facility opens next year and we ask visitors to use the nearest toilet block and shower located at Lions Park during this time.
“Feedback from the community highlighted how important a toilet is for Pambula Rivermouth and this element will be incorporated into the next phase.
“We ask and thank visitors for bearing with us while the works are completed.
“Visitors to the recreation area will see an immediate improvement and I’m confident it will grow in popularity as the works progress.”
Correction: A previous version of this story stated the existing toilet block would remain closed until the new facility opens. It will, in fact, remain open.
