LETTER: Sad, sad day to see women’s refuge go

For the last nine months I have had the great fortune of working for a feminist organisation known as SEWACS.

Under the new sector reform they lost their tender to Mission Australia.

To most of you out there this would probably mean nothing, but to the women that access South East Women and Children's Services this news is devastating.

SEWACS offers a range of programs to support women and children escaping or are vulnerable to domestic violence.

It provides prevention and early intervention activities to empower and assist women and children in Bega Valley Community.

Unfortunately with this polictical climate, our community services are taking a big leap backwards to a place where there will be no protection for women and their children in crisis.

I feel it is a sad, sad day for these women in our community to lose such an excellent service.
