In an article published ahead of what experts are predicting will be the largest and longest whale-watching season in NSW in 50 years, Eden tops the list of top 10 vantage points, ahead of Hervey Bay and Exmouth.
The Magnet spoke to National Parks and Wildlife Service cetacean expert Geoff Ross about the accolade, with the whale guru full of praise for Eden.
“Eden is a special place to watch whales, particularly because it has a number of great vantage points for land-based whale watching,” Mr Ross said.
“When I’ve visited in the past two years for the Eden Whale Festival, I’ve always seen large numbers of humpback whales, and I look forward to the day when I see killer whales in the area again.
“Of course, Eden has an incredible history when it comes to whaling, and the Killer Whale Museum holds a lot of information on that.”
Mr Ross said he will again make the journey to Eden for this year’s festival, with between 2400 and 2500 whales expected in NSW this season.
“I’m again looking forward to coming to Eden and speaking to the community about whales,” he said.
“It’s going to be an exciting year for us, and I’d absolutely encourage anyone who hasn’t experienced an Eden Whale Festival to come along this year.”
