Mel Warren of Eden Gas & Gear and one of the organisers, said it was a great success.
“I thought there were a lot more people than usual and most of the feedback we’ve had has been really positive.
“Having another jumping castle and face painting…from what I’ve heard people really appreciated that,” she said.
“It was a bit more family friendly this year but also having wine and cheese tasting was great for the adults too.”
If you thought this year’s Christmas on Imlay was a bit different to previous years, then get ready for more change.
“We’re trying to change things up a little and we’re looking to do more of that,” Mrs Warren said.
Genevieve McGuinness of Georgies Fine Jewellery was one of a team of seven staff ready to help customers with Christmas shopping on the night.
“We had a good night. We were kept busy all night and there seemed to be a lot of happy shoppers around, the atmosphere was good,” Ms McGuinness said.
“ESSCI did some charity on the chocolate wheel for Anglicare and St Vincent DePaul – they got $128 each, thanks to those people who donated goods to be won on the wheel,” she said.
Floral Finesse cakes, Rocky Hall wines and Disaster Bay Chillies were just some of the generous businesses to donate goods to local charities.
Zoe Heffernan of Mark Antony’s surf wear said they were happy to open for the atmosphere, and she and her mother Sue Heffernan love to be part of it for the town.
But she also encouraged more new faces to come to retailers meetings so they could do more and have fresh ideas.
“It’s a very, very big job. We’re always after new ideas and if more people turn up with ideas, the more we can get done,” she said.
Mrs Warren thanked Jan and Les Pike for letting the Retailers Group use an empty shopfront to set up the kid zone.
“I want to thank Campbell Page for running it and also ESSCI for their massive effort on the night.
“The Eden town team did a fantastic job putting up the Christmas banners and the barricaded. I want to especially thank them for their hard work both before and after the night.
“We had 40 businesses participating which is the best we’ve ever had. That’s a great result.”
