The Australian Veterinary Association workforce survey in 2021 found that 31 per cent of practices advertising for vets are taking 12 months or longer to fill vacancies.

After-hours veterinarian care "is a massive problem," particularly in regional areas, says Dr Bronwyn Orr, President of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA).
