Organisers said conditions didn't bother the fish with good catches reported.

There were five main species eligible for prizes; bream, dusky flathead, whiting, trevally and tailor.

The club said catch and release was supported with all prizes determined by DPI brag mat photos.

The top bream was caught by Chris Young, with a near 43cm catch in Merimbula Lake with Les Dirou the runner-up snapping a shot of an almost 42cm bream in Pambula Lake.

Philip Jacobs who fished Merimbula Lake achieved first place for dusky flathead at 65.7cm followed by Brad McBain with a 64cm fish.

McBain won the whiting prize with a lovely fish of 43.6cm followed by David Hay at 404mm.

Merrily Bell was congratulated on a trevally win with a 47.5cm with Shane Shaw's catch just half a centimetre shorter.

There was only one senior entry for tailor and this was won by Shane Shaw with a fish of 489mm from Pambula Lake.

Junior entries were strong with Logan Walker, 8, winning multiple prizes including his 37.4cm bream, a 44.6cm trevally and a tailor of 46.3cm. Tilly Blacka, 3, took out the flathead prize with a whopping 54cm catch!

Congratulations also to Chris Young single handedly landing a 1.5m long mulloway (jewfish) in Merimbula Lake last Saturday.

Mr Young said he thought he had hooked a shark in just five metres of water until the mulloway was brought close to the boat. It was photographed and released and is a club record for the species.

Offshore angling was largely curtailed by the weather, but there are still good reports from intrepid anglers.

Ocean flathead and gummy shark are available at about 18-20 fathoms off Middle Beach near Short Point and off Tura headland. There are morwong and snapper at Long Point and near Hunter Reef. Micro jigs work well and also pilchard baits.

Australian salmon, trevally, bream, whiting and dusky flathead are active in the Merimbula Lake channel as well as the Top Lake.

In Pambula Lake lots of good size bream, trevally and tailor are taking both pilchard baits and soft plastics.

Water released from Brogo Dam has blackened the waters in the Bega River and put much of the river's fish into deeper holes beneath the fresh. Try the areas up from Thompsons and just down from the islands.
