The Kiah Green Shoots day of planting and education has been rescheduled after inclement weather postponed the community day in June.
The event will give community members the opportunity to come together, learn more about their environment and be involved with its regeneration.
A walk and talk with local botanical expert Jackie Miles and a kayak tour talk on birds by Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness will feature on the day.
The Green Shoots Have Your Say survey and community drop-in session helped council get community feedback on where residents would like to see post-bushfire environmental restoration carried out and what they want to know more about regarding their environment.
The Towamba River site was selected as feedback showed most people wanted planting along the riverbank, and it's a popular and well-used location, meaning the community can observe the plants grow overtime.
The fires burnt much of the riverbank trees and ground cover species, both of which had helped stabilise the riverbank and prevent erosion, which is another important reason to do planting on that particular site.
Council surveys revealed the community is interested in learning more about the 'what now' in the environment after fire.
Other members of Atlas of Life will carry out an environmental survey on the different species in the area and show the community its new interactive platform, iNatulralist.
This is a great app for recording sightings of plants and animals which is a particularly useful resource to use now, when our environment is going through so much change.
Participants are encouraged to bring sturdy walking shoes, sun protection, BYO water bottle and a 'keep cup' if they have one. If they are kayaking, wear lightweight trousers.
