Officials said a dismal forecast for four days of rain starting on Wednesday had forced their hand with organisers saying they had to "regrettably postpone" with the dates now shifted to September 18-19.
The event has run for more than a decade and this will not be the first time it has been met with delays previously facing flooding and gale-force winds, while also going ahead through the blackened bushland following the 2018 bushfires.
Organisers said there had been a tendency for entries to come in quite late as people hold off over Covid-19 or weather concerns, with lockdowns in Victoria also giving officials a headache in the leadup.
Officials said entries were being handled by the website EntryBoss so they were unaware of any early cancellations from Victorian contenders, but figured the lockdowns were making an impact.
However, it was ultimately what officials described as a "dire weather outlook" for the rest of the week that forced them to pull the pin on the weekend until later this year.
The full contingent of rides is planned to go ahead at the later date with the festival offering junior development rides and entry level competitions for beginners, while the Sunday rides will include 30km and 50km distances.
The main rides will feature the full 23km loop of the Bundadung trails.
More details about the revised dates will be available at the Tathra Mountain Bike Club's facebook page and in print closer to the revised time.
