After signing on as a round in the NSW Rally Championship and garnering support from Bega Valley Shire Council, Forestry and NSW Police for the 2021 event to go ahead on the June long weekend, flood damage put a damper on the proposed start.

Officials from the Sapphire Coast Sporting Car Club said they had worked hard to get this year's rally up and running and, while the delay was disappointing, they are keen to see it run in the entirety later this year.

"The safety of everybody is the main concern for all - and we were alerted by council that damage to roads from the recent flooding was too severe to go ahead," Lin Thorncraft said.

"The whole crew are disappointed, but we've been given another date that we're working to confirm with our governing body and Rally NSW.

"Thankfully, the new date will still feature that full round of the NSW Championship," she said.

Rally organiser Kim Boyd shared Ms Thorncraft's sentiment.

"There was some significant damage around the area - particularly around areas like Coopers Gully, but we'll welcome it back once we've got fairer weather," Mr Boyd said.

When a date is finalised, organisers are confident it could be one of the biggest entry fields in recent memory with the addition of the Championship round and musings of some big name entries returning to put in a bid on the Sapphire Coast stages.

There are quiet rumblings among petrol heads that former Australian Rally Champions Nathan Quinn and Neal Bates could both be return competitors along with a slew of top names from the sport.

"When I was a kid it was always part of the Australian Rally Championship, so it's great to see it recognised on the calendar for NSW and we're looking forward to reigniting it later this year," Mr Boyd said.

Since making a return in 2016 the Bega Valley Rally has shown continued growth and drawn some impressive entries, Mr Boyd said despite the delay this year's could be the biggest in recent memory.

"It's hugely popular and we'll just run the same full event we had planned on the new date, nothing will change just the date," he said.
