As the weather improves officials hope to see these conditions return. Deep dropping in daylight hours is also targeting massive swordfish in offshore canyons. It is still not too late for marlin and some yellowfin tuna have moved in closer to the coast.
The prime time for big snapper to come into the inshore reefs is when the weather cools and the westerlies set in. Both soft plastics and bait will work. Best time is early morning in conjunction with a tide change.
Flathead remain on the chew in Merimbula Bay near the Pambula river mouth. Try off Kianinny as well as Short Point, Tura Headland and Bournda Island at 20 fathoms. Snapper and morwong are reported from White Rock out of Kianinny, Long Point, Haycock Reef and also Lennards Island, North Head and Boyds Tower down to Mowarry. Best results from anchoring and burleying morning and evening at 17-20 fathoms. Take care crossing the Merimbula Bar.
Members congratulated Heather Sutterby and Maggie Van Der Toorren who retrieved two pet dogs; Spike and Tilly while they were out trawling for Australian salmon.
Both dogs had escaped their owners from near the river mouth and were stranded in the ravine up-river from the entrance. Members said they also snagged some superb 60cm plus salmon.
Seas permitting, salmon together with tailor can be taken off our beaches and headlands in the early mornings and evenings on a rising tide. Try whole pilchards on a three ganged hook below a blue coloured popper.
During the run in tide trevally and dusky flathead plus salmon have reported from the Club's jetty in Spencer Park showing how quickly the waters are clearing after the rain.
