With an exciting festival program going live this year it's a great opportunity for regional filmmakers to see their short films on the big screen and presents a great opportunity for filmmakers in more remote parts of Australia to have their films and stories seen and heard.
Held over the weekend of August 20-22, the 2021 Far South Film Festival will be a hybrid event, delivering all the excitement of a live event in Merimbula, with a video-on-demand version reaching an Australia-wide audience online. The festival provides a platform to regional voices and the unique stories they share. This is one of the only film festivals in Australia that is exclusively for regional filmmakers and content creators.
Festival director Lis Shelley was asked her advice for entrants.
"Story is important, make sure you have a good start, middle and end. Also pay particular attention to your film's sound quality. I've seen many short films where the cinematography is great, but the sound quality lets the film down."
Cash prize for Best Film of $1000 and $500 for Best Youth Film, with a range of other prizes for different categories, including Best Director, Best Performance and Best Use of a Regional Setting.
The festival particularly encourages young filmmakers to enter their films. There is a separate Youth Film Category for entrants under 25 years. Enter at https://farsouthfilmfestival.com, where you'll find full submission rules and more festival details
