Around 200 marched from the RSL club to the Beach Street war memorial with flag bearers heading the march from veterans, the catafalque party around 100 ex-service members and a further 60 or so primary and high school students.
Prayers and speeches marked the start of the commemoration in front of around 1000 people before a fly-over by an E-7A Wedgetail
The large jet aircraft - based on a Boeing 737 - rumbled over from the south and blasted overhead at high speed with officials noting the fly-over was "short and sweet".
The traditional wreath-laying followed with the last post played and a minute's silence observed on the day.
With the mercury tipping the mid 20s under a cloudless Autumn sky, one veteran did succumb to heat stroke, but at a commemoration attended by hundreds of veterans and service people, first-aid was literally steps away.
