The Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club reports there are some wonderful marlin hook-ups as well as other big game catches near the continental shelf.

Members congratulated Heather Sutterby who captured her first ever striped marlin off the shelf of Merimbula.
The club reports that seasonal yellowfin have arrived with a number of vessels finding success on and over the second drop off past the Continental Shelf. At the FAD between Merimbula and Eden on the 70 fathom contour some magnificent Dolphin Fish (Mahi Mahi) up to 18Kg are also reported.
Our local reefs continue to produce well with snapper, mowong and gummy shark on offer. Fish between Short Point and Long Point for some whoppers. Snapper are active all along the reefs past Kianinny, Merimbula (Long Point and Haycock), Eden and Mowarry. Best results from anchoring and burleying morning and evening at 17-20 fathoms. Ocean flathead remain on the chew off Tura Headland, Bournda Island and Turingal Point at 20 fathoms.
Good Australian salmon are reporting from the headlands, Tura Beach, Haycock Beach and Aslings Beach at Eden. Mac tuna continue to school in Merimbula Bay and off Haycock Beach. This time of the year it is not unusual to pick up some lovely bream off the beaches and we have reports of beautiful bream from Main Beach using beach worms.
Good size calamari squid have reported from the Merimbula Fishing Platform and small prawn-like jigs are working a treat. Best time just after dawn and sunset. Anglers are picking up some lovely yellow eye mullet off the wharf using bread burley and a bread dough mixture as bait.
Anglers have also enjoyed some success with really good kingfish off the Merimbula wharf as well as local headlands, while kingies have also been reported to be on the bite at Eden's cruise ship wharf.
The Bega River has not yet become fully clean following the rains. Best results from the launching ramp jetty; bream and tailor. Wallagoot Lake remains open with the waters clearing near the entrance. Good dusky flathead are on offer. The Merimbula and Pambula estuaries continue to clear. In the lakes dusky flathead, bream, whiting and trevally are available. Good tailor are schooling in the Merimbula top Lake.
The Clubs annual Snapper Classic is on May 22-23. All details on the Club's website. Locals and visitors are all welcome to take part with 15 prize categories with a prize pool of more than $3,500.
