Group 16 rugby league will return for the first time since 2019 with an expanded 11-team first grade draw, while Sapphire Coast AFL will hold steady in the senior grade, while boasting some exciting expansion in division two and its junior competitions.
The Far South Coast Football Association will also field both senior and junior competitions after both were suspended in 2020.
The Merimbula Grasshoppers had later been able to run a round-robin junior and women's draw, while 2021 marks a return to the full competition roster.
For Group 16, the Snowy River Bears will step into the top grade to form the biggest competition the area has seen in a number of years with round one games expected to go ahead this weekend, starting April 10.
Aussie rules fans will have to wait a week longer with the opening round of the SCAFL competition scheduled for April 17.
The Far South Coast Football Association draw will start a few weeks behind with the opening round planned at this stage for May 2.
However, officials from all three codes said it was good to see sport back on track this year with Aussie rules the only one able to go ahead last year - but at an extremely reduced capacity.
SCAFL co-ordinator Mitch Wallis said it was exciting to be back on the job and put forward a full 15-week season for teams.
"It's going to be good to have a full-length season, it was a tough year last year, so hopefully we can get as many as we can back on the park and build from there," Mr Wallis said.
"Division one will remain with four teams for now, but division two has grown to seven teams with the Bega Bombers coming in with a team for the first time in a few years."
Mr Wallis expects the women's competition to remain similar, while SCAFL have been able to open up additional junior pathways in 2021.
"We're introducing an under 15s youth girls this year, it has been tough to try and promote, but all the clubs have been keen to get it running and provide those pathways for junior girls into footy," he said.
Other junior grades will continue to run on the 'odd' years with an 11s, 13s, 15s and the addition of an under 17s division this year.
"We put it to the clubs that 17s is the ideal stepping off point into senior footy," Mr Wallis said, adding it will give juniors time to develop and build bonds together before hitting the senior ranks.
A preliminary draw for the opening rounds of Group 16 first grade have been completed, but the SCAFL and the FSC Football Association are still working to finalise their team lists and draws ahead of the new season.
Draws and club previews will be published when they're available.
