Merimbula was the location for one of the NSW Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA) forums for councils and licensees on Thursday, March 4.

A spokesperson for the EPA said that at the EPA forums, members of the EPA executive outline the EPA's regulatory strategy and share with council and industry representatives information on the EPA's key regulatory priorities and discuss local environmental topics.

"The Merimbula forum discussed issues such as bushfire clean-up, the protection of waterways, waste management and organics and keeping the community informed as well as partnership with councils and how we can work better together to support each other," the spokesperson said.

Representatives from Bega Valley Shire Council, Snowy Monaro Regional Council and the Canberra Region Joint Organisation attended.

"While this round of forums is targeted to councils and licensees, the EPA is committed to increasing conversations with all our stakeholders including other business, government and community stakeholders, and will continue working hard to do this throughout the year," the spokesperson added.

Given the current COVID-19 situation the EPA has taken a conservative approach to attendee numbers and hopes to be able to extend further invitations to other groups, in the future.
