International Women's Day (IWD) is coming up on March 8 and there is a great opportunity to join in the global event on a local level.
The Eden Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Sapphire Coast Business Women, are hosting a live stream of the UN Women Australia International Women's Day (IWD) 2021 virtual event with the support of Eden-Monaro MP Kristy McBain.
Consultant Mia Maze was motivated to volunteer to put on the event in Eden after she experienced the strong leadership of women in our region during, and since, the challenges of bushfires and COVID.
She also saw it as a great opportunity to launch the partnership of Sapphire Coast Business Women with Julie Novotny, to provide an opportunity for our area to come together and plug into national and international events.
"Attending this live stream is a fantastic way to celebrate women's achievements and show your people, your clients and our community that you support the largest movement for gender equality in the world," she said.
Ms Maze emphasised that men are encouraged to head along to the event, to stand up and support women in leadership.
"We have planned this event in partnership with the Eden Chamber as a way to engage and help re-energise local businesses and it is the first in a series of potential planned events with the chamber," she said.
"We want to collaborate for the best possible outcomes for our community.
"We are very conscious our community has been challenged in lots of personal ways - we want to bring people together again," Ms Maze said.
In 2021 the global IWD theme is 'Women in Leadership' and Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain will speak at the event.
Australian of the Year Grace Tame will be headlining the IWD events, along with a diverse range of incredible women leaders. Please note Grace's story refers to childhood sexual abuse.
The event will run from 11.30am - 3pm.at Eden Fishermen's Club and has been made as inclusive as possible, with tickets priced at $25.
The organisers of this IWD event will graciously be donating any remaining proceeds after covering costs to the Eden Chamber of Commerce for similar future events for the community.
"We hope IWD 2021 is an educational and inspirational day," Ms Maze said.
"A challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change."
Singer-songwriter Corinne Gibbons will joyfully open up the event with a celebration of women's voices.
Under current COVID restrictions only 75 tickets will be available. The event has been launched via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/788530918411598
