44 years. Which happens to be seven years older than the median age of Australians. I came here, posted from inland, as a young high school teacher. We then built our own farm up at Kiah and I worked for the TAFE for 25 years.
What do you like most about your job?
I'm retired now, so most of what I do is community volunteering which means I can choose what I do in assisting others in and around Eden.
What do you like least about your job?
The odd hours.
What's your favourite place in Eden and/or the Bega Valley?
Nadgee Nature Reserve. We've had many family holidays there, it's very quiet and peaceful.
If you won $1million what would you do first?
Like Martin Luther, I would plant a tree. Actually, it probably wouldn't make any difference to me as I already feel like I've won a million dollars, so I'd give more away.
What is one thing you cannot live without?
My wife, Pam. She reads the Magnet so I have to say her.
What are three words that describe Eden best?
Welcoming, beautiful and temperate.
What do you think Eden needs the most as a community?
I look forward to more diversity. I would love to see other cultures from around the world added to my Aboriginal and mainly Anglo friends. I'd also like to see a tertiary education centre return to Eden, possibly a branch of a marine college. Eden Community Access Centre, which I am the chairperson for, really needs a community hub to better support residents.
