Police and emergency services minister Lisa Neville MP visited Mallacoota last week to open the new police station, and also received a grand tour of resident Geoff Belmore's short-term modular home.

It's been a tough road for many since the Black Summer bushfires, but despite losing both of his homes Mr Belmore is still smiling, thanks to the short-term modular housing unit he moved into prior to Christmas.
Minister Neville said one of the really critical issues after a bushfire is people having the security of housing.
"Bushfire Recovery Victoria's short-term modular housing program allows people to feel secure in a new home while they make decisions about rebuilding," Minister Neville said.
Built in Victoria, the homes are delivered straight to house sites, connected up to services and come fully-furnished with the support of charitable organisations such as GIVIT.
The homes allow affected residents live in a new, comfortable temporary space, back on their own land and remaining within their community.
Mr Belmore said the support he had received since the bushfires had been amazing.
"Just because I've lost everything, doesn't mean that my grief is different to someone who hasn't lost everything," he said.
"We've all grieved together in Mallacoota, and the support from the small community is phenomenal."
While in town, Minister Neville also met with members of the Mallacoota and District Recovery Association and visited the commemorative plaque installed near the Mallacoota wharf where residents and visitors sheltered during the fires.
"It was great to be in Mallacoota again and see the progress, but also still some of the challenges the community faces after the bushfire," she said.
Mr Belmore's modular home is one of 35 across the state.
The short-term modular housing program is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments and delivered by Bushfire Recovery Victoria.
