It has been a couple of years since the Far South Coast Cricket Association has held full two-day matches and the red ball was a refreshing shift for many, while a learning experience for some others.
In Eden, the Knights started with steady runs with both openers Ash Postance and Brendan Daley returned to the sheds for 17 runs apiece.
Postance was neatly bowled by Eden quick Patrick Kearney, while Daley fell to a catch from Mark Spink.
Dylan Jordan climbed strongly toward a half-century,. but was denied just a handful of runs short by a Matt Bell catch to end his stint on 46.
Kearney cleaned up a pair of batsmen on the cheap with two lbw results before the Knights consolidated lower into the order and set up a strong finale to the innings.
Aaron Miller started the resistance with a solid knock of 24 before he was called out lbw off a Bell ball.
The Zac Wells climbed to 26 before he was returned to the sheds by a neat catch.
Ajay Dhanian rounded out the solid result with the bat, knocking 23 runs before he was also dismissed lbw.
The tail order gave way cheaply putting the Knights all-out for 196 after 55 overs.
After pulling up the Knights short of the full innings the Eden club got to take the crease temporarily and will return at 2/63 when play resumes on Saturday.
Andrew Evelyn had a healthy knock of 34 runs before his dismissal by a Jordan ball, while Mark Spink unfortunately was bowled for a duck by the Merimbula pacemen.
Opener Rahul Mudaliar will return on 18 runs not-out, while Matt Bell will join him at the crease.
In other cricketing news from the region, Tathra scored 6/292 in their opening innings against the Bega-Angledale Bulls.
Team-mates congratulated Trickey on his first senior ton after he held the crease for almost five and a half hours to finish on 118 runs not-out.
The club said it was a remarkable stint after facing over 300 balls to help the team to a 6/291 opening innings after batting out the full 75 overs on day one.
His total included 11 boundaries and a solitary six in a defiant stand against consistent bowling pressure from the Bulls.
Trickey's result was bolstered by a pair of half-centuries to opener Ben O'Reilly and young gun Quinn Fletcher-Barrie.
O'Reilly got some early belters in for the Sea Eagles to set the stage for a strong batting display, opening the account with five boundaries and two sixes on his way to 51 before he was caught by Brad Moon.
Shannon Grass was dismissed by a Rob Stevenson catch for 12 bringing Trickey to the crease at three.
Stevenson struck again, catching Tathra captain Tynan Taylor also for 12.
