I have lived in the town of Eden since 1994, about 26 years. Prior to my retirement in 2017 I worked for Bega Community Health Service as a physiotherapist.
What do you like most about your job?
One of the things that immediately stood out to me when I first started to work in Eden was the relationships between families. It was interesting delving back into various families who had established long family histories, some of whom were still living in the town. I thought about the contribution that these families had made to the fabric of the town, hardworking people living from the land and the sea. So meeting locals through my work gradually wove the past into the present.
What do you like least about your job?
My new job is retirement. The opportunity to become more involved in the community has finally arrived. There seems to me nothing to like least about my working years, nor my current "position" as I am able to spend my time where and how I like. It is a new chapter and there are so many possibilities to consider, to discover.
What's your favourite place in Eden and/or the Bega Valley?
Eden is my favourite place full stop. The coast and landscape are relatively isolated and untouched. I love the bit of wildness that prevails here. You can go walking on a beach for kilometres and not run into many others, it reminds me constantly of the beauty and strength of nature.
If you won $1miillion what would you do first?
Hmmm had to think about it, but paying off my youngest daughters HECS debt, and my childrens houses would give them both a leg up. There would be consideration of shading for the Eden Fitness Trail main hub site.
What is one thing you cannot live without?
I don't think life would be much without freedom. We are so lucky to be living in Australia, something we can all be grateful for is our freedom of choice and expression.
What are three words that describe Eden best?
Historic, beautiful and unique.
What do you think Eden needs the most as a community?
I think the Eden community needs confidence to move forward, to recognise the natural assets we have to promote and invest in those. Eden gets knocked around again and again, this year 2020 has been enormous with fires, COVID and the wharf building. What we have is a strong community, and a stunning location in the corner of NSW which is unique, lets celebrate and build upon that base.
