If adopted, it would bring back the possibility to terminate pregnancies in which "it is known that the baby will not be able to live after birth" but at the same time protect children with Down's syndrome, according to Duda's statement on the presidential website.
On Thursday, the court decided that all abortions due to irreversible congenital defects, covering a wide range of conditions from Down's syndrome to fatal illnesses, are illegal as they violate the constitutional guarantee of protecting the life of every individual.
