Bat Soup is a performance of comedy, drama and music, featuring small casts in 10 short plays, with most written by Far South Coast writers.
The dress rehearsal was held on Thursday and the theatre company's treasurer and the show's producer Becky Lupton said it was looking very exciting and "everybody was on point".
She said the mood ranges from relatively sombre monologues by experienced actors to a surreal sci-fi piece by a local writer, then to "lunatic sketches" that are "quite insane".
There is also the 14-minute comedic musical called 21 Chump Street by Hamilton writer Lin-Manuel Miranda that features a band of local musicians.
Lupton described it as "a uniquely American story" about a high school student who falls in love with an undercover police officer.
"It's absurd in its story, tragic in its outcome and joyous in its music; and it's all true!" she said.
Bat Soup, which will be performed by a cast of 25 between the ages of 10 and 60, has clearly been attracting the interest of many in the Far South Coast as the Friday night premiere is almost sold out.
The show comes after a year where the arts and entertainment industry has been devastated by the impacts of the bushfires and coronavirus pandemic.
"Musicians especially are used to playing every weekend pretty much," Lupton said.
"I also think there's lots of people itching to come out and see something."
Lupton said due to COVID-19 restrictions bookings to the show are mandatory and she encouraged the audience to arrive slightly early to the shows so they had time to sign in.
"Come with open minds because they are going to get a lot of different things," she said.
A Regional Arts Australia grant enabled Theatre Onset to pay for the show's lighting and sound.
Bat Soup will be performed at 7.30pm on October 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10, as well as from 3pm on October 4 and 11 at the Grace Theatre on the grounds of Mumbulla School, 37 Bega St, Bega.
All showings will comply to COVID-19 safety guidelines, with distanced seating.
Tickets are $25/$20. To book click here or Google "Bat Soup Bega".
