The Eden Whalers, Bega Bombers, Pambula Panthers, Narooma Lions, Shoalhaven Giants and Ulladulla Dockers, along with five sports clubs from South Australia, will benefit from the $254,514.37 donated by the AFL's governance committee.

This brings the total amount distributed from the AFL community relief fund so far to more than $2,795,571 million across 262 football clubs/leagues. That's in addition to an initial $1million donation to the Australian Red Cross.

The governance committee, chaired by Essendon Football Club president Lindsay Tanner, met on August 5 via video conference.

Applications for funding were received from community football clubs and leagues across NSW and South Australia.

"While our nation presently fights a different type of challenge, we must not forget the bushfires had a devastating effect on so many people in the community," Tanner said.

"Local football clubs are often the epicentre of towns and communities, and we hope our continued support through the rebuild and recovery provides some much-needed relief to the clubs, players and volunteers."

Eden Whalers Football Club secretary-treasurer Nicole Crowe said the money was welcomed and will go towards replacing perimeter fences at the football ground.

"When we ran the evacuation centre during the bushfires the perimeter fencing got damaged," Crowe said.

"So this money is going directly to materials and construction."

Crowe said this was the second lot of funding granted to the Whalers via the AFL governance committee, with an earlier grant used to purchase a club bus.

As fate would have it though, the bus, destined to be used to assist the club's players from Mallacoota, is sitting idle amid the border lockdown.

The AFL announced earlier this year that a collective $8million had been raised for bushfire relief.

The figure is comprised of $2.5m by the AFL, its 18 clubs and players through the AFL Players' Association; $3.9m from the State of Origin double header event, fundraising collection points at AFLW matches and contributions by corporate partners; and $1.6m in club led activities.

Meanwhile, the Eden Whalers division two men had a good, but rain-soaked, win at the weekend, downing Tathra 14.9 (93) to 2.0 (12) at home.

The women didn't have as successful a day, going down 3.2 (20) to 6.4 (40) to the visiting Sea Eagles.

This weekend, Saturday, August 15, Eden will host the Wyndham Wedgies in the men's division two, and the Pambula Panthers in the women's game.

The club is calling on all supporters to dig out their retro club merchandise for the last home game of the season.

The players will also be donning old Eden jumpers for the game.

The women's game starts at 11.45am with ball up in the men's at 1.10pm. A kids scratch match will be on at 10.30 for anyone at the Barclay St grounds early.
