With a short beard and cropped hair, 35-year-old Eden man Trevor Fleet appeared in Bega Local Court on August 11 via audio visual link from Silverwater Correctional Complex's Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre, charged with recklessly wounding.

Police allege Fleet stabbed his stepfather at an Eden home after an alleged argument on August 3.

The court heard Fleet's alleged victim received surgery in Canberra Hospital, and is likely to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Magistrate Doug Dick refused Fleet bail, noting his significant criminal history, weak community ties, the possible long length of time before his case would be heard in the NSW District Court, and that in his opinion a custodial sentence is inevitable, as reasons for his decision.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Liza Brown earlier opposed the bail application, telling the court the police allegations involved a "violent offence involving a knife", and Fleet may be a flight risk due to his regular movement between Coffs Harbour and Eden.

Fleet's lawyer Jennifer Chalker said any risks could be "mitigated" with imposed bail restrictions, and Fleet's willingness to put forward a surety of $2000.

However, Sergeant Brown also raised Fleet's recent offending, involving carrying a knife in a public place, and that police have an independent witness to the alleged stabbing, as reasons for police opposing bail.

Magistrate Dick adjourned the matter to Bega Local Court on Tuesday, August 25.
