Topics to be canvassed at the 10 August Zoom video conference include:
- lessons about resilience and recovery
- opportunities for sustainable economic growth, linking local, national and global
- culture and knowing who we are
- a green recovery is a universal opportunity and a necessity
- where to from here?
As well as a host of Bega Valley voices, the whole community is invited to take part and contribute to the discussion via a live stream to Bega Valley Shire Council's Facebook page. The conference runs from 2pm-5.30pm.
Key speakers will include the Governor-General of Australia, David Hurley, partner at Bain & Co Marc Eames, CEO of the Tourism and Transport Forum, Margie Osmond, Bega Cheese chairman Barry Irvin as well as directors from several global organisations.
The Global Foundation is non-profit, independent and membership based, with the majority of support from enlightened global business leaders. It originated in Australia, and also convenes a parallel Australian Roundtable series, to stimulate thinking and action about Australia's long-term national strategy, in a global context.
The Global Foundation said that the Bega Valley Roundtable will serve two purposes:
To bring to bear the talents of figures of national and global influence to understand, support and, where possible, enable Bega Valley to fulfil its future potential;
To ensure that the experience of trauma, resilience and recovery in the Bega Valley is able to influence wider thinking about a forward national strategy for Australia, in a global context.
"We find ourselves at a point in time that invites reflection on where we have come from and what we want for our future," said council's general manager, Leanne Barnes.
"The roundtable will connect us with a broader, deeper pool of thinkers and ideas that will help inspire the discussions that are already underway locally," Ms Barnes said.
The community can join the discussion via the live stream to council's Facebook page.
