"Apollo" is the aptly named first little penguin to be released to a new site at Twofold Bay, Eden where NPWS have set up fencing and a recorded penguin call to attract penguins to nest and make a colony.
He was in care while he moulted and regrew his feathers as he was not waterproof and was being harassed by dogs on the beach.
Also released back to the water was a large black swan walking the back streets of Pambula Beach called in by a concerned member of public. She caught the bird and placed it in her garage overnight.
The next morning Janine Green from WIRES Far South East picked it up and took it into care. After observing it and making sure it was healthy it was released back to the water by Ms Green and fellow WIRES FSE member Adriana Turk.
Meanwhile, a number of pelicans have been finding themselves in trouble, getting tangled in fishing line.
Janine and Baron Green, along with new members Leonie McKinnon and Marianne Kambouridis - who were eager to learn how to catch a pelican - spent time enticing the birds in and removing line, fish hooks and sinkers.
