"When we applied for the BBRF, the concept had been modified to include pathway connectivity to the Eden playground that funding had been announced for, hence the change to a $750,000 total project, which is what was submitted to the BBRF," council said.
"At the time we submitted each of the grants, we didn't know what the outcome of the other would be. Given that, there was a chance council would have been expected to co-contribute more. However we now have the advice that both the state and federal governments will be contributing.
Council said it would contribute $150,000 with $300,000 from the state government and $300,000 from the federal government.
Once funding deeds are signed, council said it would engage a suitably qualified landscape architect to develop a concept then detailed design in conjunction with the recently formed Eden Skatepark Committee.
Further movement on the Merimbula skate park must wait consultation with the community over the location for a skate park in Merimbula, the type of skate park and for what ability level it should cater.
Peter O'Keefe of the Sapphire Coast Skatepark Association has welcomed the announcement of consultation.
"Whatever your preference is for the location please take the time to engage in this consultation and add your vote. We won't get a second chance at this," Mr O'Keefe said.
