Police said they were still investigating the crash, which was reported just after 1.30pm on Saturday.

The man was riding on trails in the Quarantine Bay Estate area south of Eden and hit a wire barrier that had been erected on a private property that police said had been signposted.

He was conveyed to hospital with three broken ribs and required surgery on his arm following the crash.

"It appears at this stage the rider went into a track on a private property," a NSW Police spokesman said.

"There was an entrance leading off the Princes Highway with dirt tracks into thick bushland."

Police said the man was riding along a section of track on a private property where wiring was tied around two large trees to stop vehicles from entering the property.

"He was riding uphill and collided with the wiring and was conveyed to hospital with those injuries," the police spokesman said.

Friends said the riders were heading towards the highway, not off the Highway and believed the track to be part of a fire trail.

Friends said the man remains in hospital as of Tuesday.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances as the wire barrier was sign-posted on the trail, but said the investigations were ongoing.

He said police were able to speak to the rider on Saturday, but are seeking to speak with him further as he was awaiting an operation on his arm at hospital.

They also spoke with a family member the following day.
