About 2.30pm on Friday, April 10, officers from Monaro Highway Patrol stopped a Mitsubishi Triton on Kosciuszko Rd, Coolringdon, about 12km west of Cooma, after it was allegedly detected speeding.
Upon speaking with the 28-year-old male driver from Gilmore, ACT, police allegedly noticed camouflage and hunting related clothing in the vehicle, as well as a compound bow.
Police said checks on the man revealed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in NSW and he was arrested at the scene.
Investigators from the Rural Crime Prevention Team attached to Operation Harrier attended and searched the vehicle.
They allegedly found a loaded CMC Howa 1500 22-250 calibre rifle, ammunition and 3.3grams of a substance, which police alleged could be methylamphetamine.
The man was taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with possess loaded firearm in a public place, possess unauthorised firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess unauthorised ammunition and possess prohibited drug.
He was also served with an outstanding warrant for break and enter offences.
The man appeared before Wollongong Local Court via audio visual link on Saturday, April 11.
He was released on conditional bail that requires him to reside at a Gilmore address and report to Queanbeyan Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The matter was adjourned to Queanbeyan Local Court on April 27.
