They will be celebrating Boydtown's Foundation Day-177 years after the date on which in 1843 Ben Boyd purchased 640 acres from the colonial government to establish his ambitious township project.
The original Foundation Day was preceded by a birthday a few months earlier on January 4 when Ben Boyd and Oswald Brierley nailed a blanket to a pole as the town standard at the site selected on the shores of Twofold Bay near the mouth of the Nullica River.
The centre tells the story of Ben Boyd's travels in the Pacific and features his Australian activities in the period 1842-1849.
It includes original paintings and period photos with extensive descriptions of Ben Boyd's enterprises including whaling, shipping, banking, owning and operating pastoral stations, wheat and wool growing and trading, both out of Boydtown and Sydney.
A map detailing a historic walk around the area will be launched the same day. Everyone is welcome to attend.
