Thursday was another tough day on the South Coast - there were losses, there were victories and today, amazingly there were smiles, too.

Andrea Cantle and John Hanscombe teamed up today to check out commuities south of Batemans Bay - from Moruya to Bodalla, by highways and byways.
Here's an update from just after 2pm:
Now these are some of the people they met along the way ...
SES MAN TREVOR BENNETT
Moruya SES rescue officer Trevor Bennett evacuated about 3.30pm Thursday as flames came close to the unit's HQ.
If it was destroyed, Mr Bennett said, it would have been a great loss to the Eurobodalla Shire - particularly after the Batemans Bay SES headquarters was lost in the New Year's Eve blaze.
Thursday's fire not only destroyed a property nearby but a number of cars nearby, road, but also more property at Yarragee Road. The police public order and riot squad were blocking access to non-residents on Friday.
A FAMILY UNITED
This is Emily, Renee and Elise Harle, Sue Toomey and Katie Harle.
Ms Toomey, whose 87 and 88-year-old parents own the River St West property in the background, was at the Moruya Bowling Club when she evacuated yesterday about 4pm.
She said a number of sheds, a greenhouse and a caravan were lost on the property as the blaze hit in the early evening. The home's balcony also was damaged.
She said since 1980, the family had dealt with floods but a fire emergency was a new experience.
Renee Harle and children came down from Tahmoor to be with the family yesterday.
AND THEY'RE STILL SMILING
Steve and Vicki Blue, of Riverwood Place, Moruya, were extinguishing smouldering trees and clearing bush on Friday morning.
Mr Blue, a retired electrician, said they were lucky the recent rain gave them enough water yesterday, and they had a new tank and pump wired underground.
Their property, he said, was "just hammered" by the nor-west wind yesterday and he reckons the it was fortunate more properties were not lost yesterday.
The family had been preparing their property for fire for about a month, moving fuel away from their home.
DOING THEIR BIT
Meet Army reservists Sgt Dean Scott and Lieutenant Andrew Alexander.
The two men, of 1/15 a Royal NSW Lancers, based at Holsworthy and of 2/17 Royal NSW regiment, based at Blacktown respectively, are lending a hand to the massive South Coast fire clean-up.
Yesterday and today they helped clear routes in the Eurobodalla Shire including at Potato Pt and Horse Island Road, Bodalla.
Their reserve units, made up of about 30 people, including engineers, have removed 100 trees and removed fences over the past three weeks, clearing routes with chainsaws, man power and their vehicles which can bulldoze and pull the trees.
DAN'S OVER IT
BIG DAY
Uniformed men and women from the NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, SES and ARMY were buzzing around the emergency operations centre based at the Moruya Memorial Hall.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council emergency management team, and council workers, have been working around the clock.
