Nearly a dozen families linked to the Wagga Leagues Swimming Club made the trip with the intent of supporting the local economy despite the cancellation of the Wharf to Waves.
Speaking to Waves promoter Vanessa Milton, Anthony Paul was among the visitors and said he had swum in almost every Wharf to Waves since its inception.
"We've been coming down for probably 30 years and I've done it [Wharf to Waves] every year, bar two," Mr Paul said.
"We got a phone call on the Monday saying 'it's not happening', but we were booked so we all came down to pump a little money into the town, we all love Tathra," he said.
"There is probably 40 or 50 of us here with all the extended family."
All the families are part of the Wagga Leagues Swimming Club and said they had weekly swim sessions at an idyllic river-side beach at Wagga Wagga.
The club also has links to the Tathra Surf Life Saving, providing external lights to aid in night rescues after the tragic drowning of Shane O'Neill and his two young sons in 2008. They also sourced a projector and TV for the club's training room.
Most of the group made a swim or stand up paddle to the Wharf on Sunday with a large group of locals also taking the splash.
"We'll definitely be back next year," Mr Paul said.
"It's just a beautiful peaceful community and we enjoy supporting Tathra."
