Work by NSW Fire and Rescue crews and Australian Defence Force personnel has had a significant effect on the fire at the Eden Chip Mill where the chip stack has been buring since the early hours of Sunday, January 5.

While just days ago flames could still be seen flaring at the site, the fire is much more under control.
NSW Fire and Rescue Deputy Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell said that crews from several sites had worked with the ADF at the site and a large number of logs had been saved.
A high volume pump from the wharf was used to pump water into the fire.
In addition a tracked and remote control pump and water sprayer was used to get into areas that were unsafe for crews to tackle directly.
The teams have been working on putting out the fire in the chip stack.
The idea is to get the site back to a state where we can hand back to the local site management.

Large earth moving equipment has been brought on to the site and Australian Army bulldozers have been used to thin out the smouldering stack and spread it out so that fire fighters from Fire and Rescue can more easily extinguish it.
"The idea is to get the site back to a state where we can hand back to the local site management," Deputy Commissioner Fewtrell said.
The ADF continues to provide ongoing air support and help in recovery operations.
