On November 23, Canberra Brass is helping the Bega District Band celebrate its 120th birthday with a huge concert featuring the "Hits of Stage and Screen".
As well as the visiting and well-renowned musicians from the capital, local superstars Frankie J Holden and Michelle Pettigrove will be providing guest vocals.
Bega District Band will also be showcasing the growing skills of its young development cohort.
The Bega All-Ages Development Band - or BAAD Band as members are calling themselves - has had a stellar start, with good numbers registering to further their skills since it launched in May this year.
The concert, to be held in the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre will be BAAD's first full concert experience and the youngsters are keen to show audiences what they can do.
Bega District Band treasurer David Moore said BAAD has a range of ages represented, although they are mostly school students.
"We do have two adult semi-learners on violin though," he said.
"They were a surprise because we'd advertised for concert musicians - usually brass and woodwind - but when they turned up and were keen to join we said 'sure, why not'.
"There's also a returning player who plays in the brass band already.
"Apart from that most of the kids are from Bega Primary School, a few home school kids and a few from Montessori, then there's one from Bega High and one from Tathra."
The idea behind BAAD is to give up-and-coming concert musicians access to instruments and skilled teachers even if they aren't quite ready to join the band proper just yet.
"The idea was to provide a local group where kids could experience playing in a band. Learning these sorts of instruments on your own is really hard work," Mr Moore said.
"You can play a ukulele and have some fun, the same with a guitar or a piano, but these are not solo instruments as such. The sooner we can get them playing in a group the better."
The Hits of Stage and Screen concert featuring Canberra Brass supported by Bega District Band, Bega All-Ages Development Band, Frankie J Holden and Michelle Pettigrove is on Saturday, November 23, from 7pm, at the Bega Civic Centre.
Tickets are $12 general entry, with children under 15 free. Book online at trybooking.com/BFZSB, or pay at the door.
