Singers and songwriters, musicians and storytellers, social and environmental activists, poets and parents, they tour with their two children in tow, embodying a down-home approach to their musical touring life.
On Wednesday, November 6, Mike and Ruth will be performing at Nethercote Hall, hosted by the Southern Valley Folk Club.
They last toured here in 2007 with their five-piece band The Mammals, playing the National, Port Fairy and Fairbridge festivals, and many other memorable shows around the country.
Ruth is carrying on her family tradition, being the daughter of legendary fiddler/composer Jay Ungar, known for his famous composition 'Ashokan Farewell', which was used as the the theme for Ken Burns' landmark documentary, The Civil War.
Mike and Ruth's concerts blend artistry and authenticity, with fiery fiddle and banjo, emotionally potent harmonies, and dynamic stories that deepen the experience.
Tap your toes and sing along as Mike and Ruth roam through the whole span that is Americana from alt-country to folk and bluegrass.
Kim Gardaya from the Southern Valley Folk Club said it was an evening not to be missed.
"They are a fabulous duo from the US and we feel incredibly lucky to have these artists include our beautiful neck of the woods in their tour," Kim said.
