For the six-month April-to-September period this year, the village managed a meagre 58.9mm of precipitation. (Bega did a little better with 74.8mm for the same half-year)
However, Bemboka Garden Club members have been making sure that their gardens have been well-watered in preparation for this month's annual Flower Show - the club's 35th.
This is the biggest flower show on the Far South Coast, and attracts visitors from far and wide.
It will take place at Bemboka Memorial Hall on Sunday, October 27, between 12-3pm.
Competition entry tickets will be available at the hall on Saturday October 26 between 9-1am, and Sunday 8-10am.
The $6 admission includes light refreshments. There will also be raffles for a wheelbarrow full of garden goodies, and a beautiful locally made quilt.
Main categories for prizes cover "Roses", "Produce & Pot Plants", "Cut Flowers" and "Floral Art". There are sections for children and novices, with a total of 63 different sub-categories. Entry fees are 20 cents each.
Previous judges have praised the high quality of entries in past years.
The club's September meeting featured a demonstration from Jeff Knox on bonsai cultivation techniques.
Jeff, from Merimbula, has won awards in numerous flower shows, and members were able to get some hands-on experience in the art, combined with expert advice. Jeff was kind enough to leave a bonsai plant behind, which became a raffle prize for the October meeting.
