With the moon full, good gummy shark are being taken off our reef edges at Cowdroys north of Kianinny and just south of Haycock. Good snapper remain at Haycock Point and North Head at about 20 fathoms. Best bait fresh slimy mackerel. There are also good snapper and morwong from White Rock, Long Point and Lennards Island. Flathead anglers continue to battle with chinamen leatherjacks north from Bournda Island and White Rock. Best catches off Tura Headland at 20 fathoms. Further north try off Kianinny and Cowdroys at 18 fathoms.
As the lake waters warm, dusky flathead, trevally and bream are coming onto the chew in the Merimbula main lake and at Pambula at the Shark Hole and Broadwater. In the Bega River keen anglers are targeting estuary perch up river, look for overhanging branches and timber, try metal vibes. The Bega River remains closed so try the rock wall up from the launching ramp for bream and near the bridge for dusky flathead. Soft plastics, hard bodies, nippers and peeled prawns offer the best results
Last Friday and Saturday the club celebrated its annual trip away at Wonboyn Lake Resort and a wonderful time was had by all with a carry over to this weekend's National Gone Fishing Day on October 20, an initiative of Australia's Recreational Fishing community which marks the commencement of the summer fishing season. Congratulations to Kristen Matteo of Tura Beach who won the 2019 Mex Williams Trophy for the largest catch and release dusky flathead. Sincere thanks to the club's hosts Peter and Paula of Wonboyn Lake Resort for such an outstanding weekend.
