Who better to prepare your social media campaign than teenagers?

Last week, students from Eden Marine High School dabbled in working life as content makers creating a social media advertising campaign for local organic skin care company Saarinen Organics.

On Friday, September 6, DoubleTake photographics Peter Whiter mentored Year 11 photography students through an intensive hands on workshop to create the campaign that will launch Saarinen Organics latest eco skin care range in the near future.

Using cameras, sound, lighting and computer equipment as well as participating as models, the students used their already savvy social media know-how to give the skin care range their unique touch.

Student Beth Lovatt said participating in the campaign gave her a chance to get a feel for the world of digital marketing, a career path she said she may be interested in.

"It's been a great experience to learn about the commercial side of photography. There is a lot of work that goes into promoting businesses it's been interesting," she said, as well as admitting being one of the models was daunting at first but she "soon got used to it."

"I still think I prefer to be behind the lens," she said.

Eden Marine High School careers advisor Michelle Bond said she approached Saarinen Organics founders Kay and Greg Saarinen after they completed the Bega Valley Innovation Hub program with the hope of linking real businesses with the student community.

"We are preparing the students to be workplace ready. This work will become part of their portfolio and they will have gained experience working with professional businesses like Double Take and Saarinen Organics. You can't get that at school," Ms Bond said.

Saarinen Organics founder Kay Saarinen said instead of using a business to do the campaign she liked the idea of passing it on to the students who, she said had so far proven to be innovative and creative with their products.

"It's exciting for them and for us- we have found a whole gamut of undiscovered creatives, you never know we might end up employing some of them in the future," she said.
