Eden Marine Rescue recorded a whopping wind speed of 81.7 knots at 7am this morning, August 22, later recording less drastic but pretty significant storm force gusts of 56 knots at 11am.
There have been reports of the winds knocking down whole brick fences, trees down across residential streets and Curalo Boardwalk and a roof being torn off a shed.
NSW State Emergency Services Eden unit manager Patricia Daly said the SES responded to a call of a shed roof being blown off on Thursday - surprisingly the unit had not received any call outs throughout the morning, Ms Daly confirmed.
"The unit have been busier than usual recently with a mixture of jobs across road crash rescue, storm, land search and other tasks. Unit members have been very generous with their time to support the community," Ms Daly said.
Meanwhile further down the coast in Mallacoota, there have been reports of twisted trampolines along with trees across roads and through fences.
Mallacoota Police Sergeant Stuart Johnston said local SES, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and East Gippsland Council crews were busy all morning clearing trees from roadways.
Mallacoota residents woke up to a whole town blackout, with power being restored at 11am.
Preschool educator Holly Dayment arrived to work to find a tree through the playground fence. Due to the damaging winds and the power blackout, the preschool sessions were cancelled for the day.
A severe weather warning for damaging winds was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for the South Coast for Thursday.
