In news just in, Bupa Eden reports it has been successful in its application for re-accreditation.
Friday, August 16, was the deadline imposed following an audit of the service by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission in March.
At that time Bupa Eden was found to meet only 14 of 44 accreditation standards. The Commission made a decision to revoke accreditation as of August 16.
A spokesperson for Bupa Eden late Friday informed the Eden Magnet of the 11th hour good news.
"Our application for re-accreditation has been successful. The period of accreditation is from 16 August 2019 to 16 February 2020," a spokesperson confirmed.
The service had earlier said it would continue to operate as an approved provider regardless of the accreditation outcome, but this news means the Eden nursing home will retain access to Commonwealth funding for at least the next six months.
Sanctions imposed on the nursing home still remain in place until December 2019. The sanctions mean Bupa Eden can not accept new residents, but the spokesperson said that also means they can focus on providing care for the current residents, while continuing to make improvements on the areas that weren't meeting standards.
Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner Janet Anderson confirmed following an unannounced site audit at the aged care service, the decision was made to accredit the service for a period of six months. The accreditation will expire on February 16, 2020.
"In making the decision about the service's accreditation status, the commission noted the service has made progress in rectifying previously identified non-compliances," Ms Anderson said.
"The decision to accredit also included placing Bupa Eden on a 'Timetable for Improvement' to enable it to continue working towards full compliance."
The Commission will continue to monitor the service and again assess its compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards at a further unannounced site audit in the coming months.
The report resulting from the recent site audit and the Consumer Experience Report for Bupa Eden will be available on the Commission's website in the coming weeks.
