The Labor opposition is pursuing Mr Taylor over his interest in Jam Land Pty Ltd, linked to an investigation into alleged illegal land clearing.

Its pursuit centres on a 2017 meeting with environment department officials and the office of then-environment minister Josh Frydenberg.

It was held while investigations were underway into the alleged poisoning of 30 hectares of endangered grasslands on a NSW property Jam Land owned.

The latest MP register, published on the Parliament House website, shows Mr Taylor declared Gufee Pty Ltd and two other companies noted as "via Gufee" - Maclaughlin River Pastoral Pty Ltd and Growth Farms Pty Ltd.

But there is no mention of Jam Land.

Mr Taylor defended the move under Labor questioning in parliament on Thursday, arguing his indirect interest in Jam Land did not need to be formally declared on the register.

"I have declared my interests in accordance with the rules," he told parliament on Thursday.

"If Labor is proposing to change the rules it would require many changes in disclosures including from those opposite."

Attorney-General Christian Porter backed in his cabinet colleague.

"He discloses trusts and nominee companies in exactly the same way that all the members opposite do."

Labor's efforts to set up an inquiry into the matter fell short one vote in parliament this week.

The opposition also queried why Mr Taylor had not added to his new register a company he was involved in when he entered parliament.

Between 2004 and 2015 Mr Taylor was a director and a shareholder in a company called JRAT International, along with an associate, John Roberts.

However it did no business and earned no income.

Mr Taylor told AAP in a statement in May he should have declared the company, however "given this company conducted no business during the time I was associated with it, it clearly presented no possible conflict of interest during my first two years in the parliament".
