A missing Melbourne man will spend a fourth night in near-freezing temperatures in Victoria's alpine region but police are confident they will find him alive.
Jeremy Boyden, 23, from Ferntree Gully was last seen north of the Dargo township on the Dargo High Plains Road about 5pm on Friday.
Dozens of police and volunteers have spent days searching the area and are due to resume looking on Tuesday.
"Every minute that goes by, we become more and more concerned. But we're still convinced we will find him alive somewhere," Sergeant Anthony Dessent told reporters on Monday.
Mr Boyden was last seen wearing a green and gold jumper and blue tracksuit pants, and is thought to be wearing only one runner.
He is also believed to be with his Jack Russell terrier, Rocky.
The apparent temperature in the area has dipped to below freezing at times since Friday.
Mr Boyden's friends have joined the search.
"It's pretty devastating when you hear that your best mate has gone missing ... we're out here doing everything we can," Jake Reid said.
Anyone with information about Mr Boyden's whereabouts is urged to contact the Sale Police Station on 03 5142 2200.
