The event kicked off at Merimbula Public School hall with a Welcome to Country delivered by Aunty Colleen Dixon also acknowledging the late respected elder and community leader Aunty Margaret Rose Dixon.

Principal Michelle Hulme also acknowledged country before introducing Ms Anu to the stage.

The primary school pupils were abuzz with excitement as the talented Ms Anu, supported by guitarist Raymund Shek, presented her new performance In Conversation and Song to the packed-out hall.

The audience were treated to Ms Anu's childhood stories, snippets of language and traditional instruments from the Torres Strait.

It wasn't long before everybody in the hall were singing and dancing along with Ms Anu to songs in language as well as her 1995 hits Party and My Island Home.

After the performance, Ms Anu said she felt like she had found a brand new school who had embraced her culture.

"The Merimbula Public School kids were vibrant, energetic and so engaged. Their grasp of language, the language songs and dances was wonderful," she said.

After the morning's performance Ms Anu travelled to Eden to deliver an entertaining rock-style concert to a packed school hall at Eden Marine High.

A major highlight of the Eden performance was when Ms Anu called talented Year 9 student Nikea Hayes on stage to sing her version My Island Home with Christine as back-up.

The darkened hall resembled a starry nightscape as the school community waved mobile phones to the tune of Nikea's voice.

According to Aboriginal Education Committee member Corrina Collins, Nikea came across just like a "real rockstar".

"Nikea was over the moon - she said nothing would ever compare to this experience and it was definitely something she could tick off her bucket list," Ms Collins said.

"The concert was an absolute treat for the whole school community - the sound and lighting students had the opportunity to work on the lighting and we were all over the moon with the whole event."

Key organiser of the event Ms Hulme said Merimbula and surrounds had made a positive impression on Ms Anu and Mr Shek.

"She shared that she would be taking home some special memories to treasure and she would love to keep coming back," Ms Hulme said.

According to the school principal, Ms Anu is planning to showcase Merimbula and the surrounding communities on her ABC Radio show in the near future.

"This was such an amazing way to celebrate NAIDOC Week," Ms Hulme said.

NAIDOC Week will be celebrated July 7-14.
