The The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is all about empowering people with disability to have more choice and control in their lives.
Giving funding to individuals rather than to organisations means people with disability can now use their power as consumers to actively influence how the supports they need are delivered.
There are many great stories from people connected to The Disability Trust about the positive difference the NDIS has made in their lives.
Pippa Blashki is a young woman who, like most young adults, always dreamed of the day when she could move out of home and have a place of her own.
Thanks to the NDIS, Pippa has now moved into a shared house in Bega, and loves her new home.
Support workers from The Disability Trust help me do things in the community ... I have a volunteer job, and I am making beanies and doing raffles to raise money for children in Africa.
- Margaret Taylor, NDIS recipient
"It's really good. Beth and I are friends and we like doing crafts together and cooking together," Pippa said.
"I visit with my Mum and Dad, but this is where I live now."

Margaret Taylor, also supports the benefits of the NDIS.
"I love everyone at The Disability Trust, they help me with so many things," Margaret said.
"Support workers from The Disability Trust help me do things in the community. I go swimming each week, I have a volunteer job, and I am making beanies and doing raffles to raise money for children in Africa."
The NDIS is outcomes-focused, so it provides people with the opportunity to set goals and work towards achieving change in their lives.
The NDIS supports people to develop new skills, participate in their community and link in to work opportunities.
A key aim of the NDIS is to increase opportunities for people with a disability to be included in the workforce, and this aligns well with the focus that The Disability Trust in Bega has always had.
For school leavers, The Disability Trust has a targeted School Leaver Employment Program to help them discover their talents and map out a path to paid employment through skill development, work experience and job trials.
The Disability Trust is committed to supporting people to achieve their goals and support them to be included in their local community through valued connections and roles.
In these early days of the NDIS, it is working closely together through innovation, creativity and flexibility to ensure that all participants can be provided with great outcomes and opportunities.
