The Sharks ran in five tries in a dominant first-half, but took the foot off the gas in the second half as Eden made the scoreline more respectable.
New recruit Jordan Terare opened the scoring in the seventh minute of play, and Dennis Green was in just three minutes later to open an early 10-0 lead.
The Sharks doubled their lead by the 20th minute, as both Sean Deaves and Peter Lett scored in the right-hand corner.
The Tigers worked their way back in to the contest from that point, but a late try to Deaves gave Moruya a 28-0 lead heading into the break.
Eden came out firing in the second half, forcing Moruya's defence into some heavy work on its own goal line.
Elvis Tui eventually opened Eden's account in the 57th minute, and when Joel Grewar crossed three minutes later, the Tigers were back in with a sniff.
Mitchell Farrell scored Eden's third try with 10 minutes remaining, giving Moruya a very nervous finish to the game.
Those nerves were quickly gone though, as Pat McMahon raced through a big hole on the right side to score the match-sealing try.
Sharks' captain, Tim Weyman, said his side suffered from complacency in the second half.
"We started well, but we just started dropping a bit of ball at the back end of the first half," he said. "We kept giving them opportunities.
"We nearly had them on the ropes. If we'd scored again before half time, the game would've just about been over.
"The hot weather didn't help, our defence lost a lot of energy in the second half."
Weyman said he's confident in his side's prospects for 2019.
"We had a really good pre-season, and we're all feeling pretty good," he said. "We're looking strong as well. There's still some boys to come back, but we've got the bye next week, so good to get the two points and rest up.
"We've got more depth with our reserve graders this season, and they had a really good win today."
Earlier in the day, the Moruya Sharkettes scored the last two tries in a 22-18 loss to premiers Eden, while the reserve-grade Sharks had a strong 32-22 win.
Match Notes
- The Sharks held a minute's silence before the first-grade fixture in memory of both Wayne Harrison and Serge Dobson.
- Former Batemans Bay Tigers player, Mason Harrison, made his debut for the Eden Tigers on Sunday, but unfortunately missed most of the second half after being knocked out.
- The Sharks' new recruits were impressive on Sunday, as Sean Deaves, Peter Lett, and Jordan Terare scored four tries between them. Koorin and Yuin Campbell both featured in the backline as well.
- Eden actually had the better of the opening five minutes, but a series of errors and defensive lapses put the game out of reach by half time.
- Eden was missing half John Aldridge after a shoulder injury in the Nines. He's expected back in the next couple of weeks.
