Nicole Crowe said there is plenty of excitement to get on the paddock, but the women's side might be met with a forfeit as Broulee/Moruya struggle for numbers.
"We're just waiting for word on whether we have a game or not, but there has definitely been a good buzz at training," Ms Crowe said.
"Last night was a really good run and the numbers are looking better than the last few years for the men's side - so that has boosted everyone along."
Without a pre-season Lightning Cup this year, there has been no early indications of form and both the seniors and ladies sides are itching to take the field.
However, the seniors will have a first round bye and the ladies look to confirm their opening round tie against the Giants.
Ms Crowe said she understood the challenge given talk some women's sides are struggling to confirm numbers.
Ladies teams now have to field a minimum of 12 players where previously teams could go as low as nine and there is talk some teams are struggling to fill the boots.
She said the Whalers - who are in the hunt for their fourth-straight premiership - have also lost six or seven from last year, but had recruited a number of young players to fill the ranks.
"We've recruited quite young and we'll be testing some of them through the 14s and they'll switch up the ladies as they build confidence," she said.
The ladies are scheduled to play the Giants at Moruya's Gundary Oval on Saturday with a start at 1.10pm.
The club is very much opening the door for anyone interested in playing.
Ms Crowe said people of any ability were welcome and while numbers were already solid, she said the Whalers were passionate about Aussie rules and wanted to ensure depth throughout the club.
